Welsh Open Beach Volleyball Championships 2016

Cardiff Beach Volleyball will be hosting the first International Welsh Open Championships at Victoria Park.

Venue: Victoria Park, Cardiff, CF5 1EY (north side, Thompson avenue)

Date: September 3 rd & 4 th 2016

Here are the entry details of our first Welsh Open at Victoria Park.

We hope this will be the first of many high level beach Volleyball tournaments to be held at the new “Cardiff Beach Volleyball Centre”, I have gone to a lot of work to make this our first event a major event.
As we are restricted with the number of courts we are having to restrict the entries for this years event. However next year we will have a minimum of 5 courts which will allow us to expand the event further.

With this in mind please DO NOT be too disappointed if you are not selected for this event, it has nothing to do with your ability or commitment. It is simply down to a couple of basic factors. Firstly the number of courts that we have at present and also the fact that our potential sponsors will be watching what we are capable of doing at the Beach Centre. So with this in mind the structure of the tournament will be as follows:

WOMEN
8 womens teams playing in two pools on one court, with the top 4 teams progressing into the semi-finals to be played on centre court on the Sunday. The remaining 4 teams will play in a plate competition on the Sunday. This will be a total of 12 games over both pools, with each team playing at least 3 games.

MEN
12 mens teams playing in 3 pools of 4 teams on two courts, with the top 2 teams from each pool progress, along with the best two teams in 3rd place from all 3 pools. This will be a total of 18 games  over 3 pools, with each team playing at least 3 games.
The remaining teams will play in a plate competition on the Sunday, after pool games have finished.

With this in mind entries will be selected on certain criteria, that being Teams travelling from abroad, club members and level of play (IE Ranking).

All games will start promptly 9am on the Saturday morning, and we will try to achieve completing all the pool games on the Saturday, however there will be a chance of the last of the pool games overflowing onto the Sunday morning again starting at 9am.

I have always tried to make sure that teams entering my competitions get value for money, and this format is a way of achieving this, by guaranteeing a certain number of games over the whole weekend.
Start times are exact and unchangeable, if you are not here games will start without you and you WILL be penalized for late starts.

NOW..
